Don Thorpe likes to ride. A lot. Don, a retired educator and life-long cycling activist, has found a way to ride against the automotive tide. In the City of Burlington, that can be challenging. To be clear, if you’re looking for a nice trail and a weekend outing, then Burlington can really rock, but if you’re trying to navigate around the city to get from A to Z, from getting the groceries to visiting a friend across town, well, that can be tricky, if not discouraging. Somehow, a painted bicycle icon on a very busy street is of little comfort as you pray that drivers give you what little room the token bike lane offers. What’s your experience of Burlington by bike?
Without dedicated lanes, the question becomes simple: would you let your kid ride home from school on this road?
This time on Imagine Burlington, we’ll take a spin with Don and see what Burlington could look like if life was really two wheels good.
