Oct. 18, 2021 — Press Release

From the Burlington Performing Arts Centre

Halloween is right around the corner, and we have a treat for you! Lucy Darling brings her delightfully charming magic to the Burlington Performing Arts Centre’s Community Studio Theatre on October 29.

David Copperfield, the most successful magician in history, praises Darling as “a true original – hilarious and delightful. An EXCEPTIONAL new talent in magic.” The vampish Lucy Darling, whom Steve Martin calls “simply wonderful”, is the stage persona of Carisa Hendrix, evoking comparisons of indelible entertainers like Dame Edna, Pee Wee Herman and Dorothy Parker. Darling has been heralded as “a Gilded Age character that is part Barbara Stanwyck, part Lady Gaga and part ‘Mad Men’s’ Joan Holloway”. Prepare to fall in love with Lucy Darling as she debuts brand new illusions and wins over audiences with her wit, charm and exceptionally good hair.

“I am thrilled to be opening the Season for the Burlington Performing Arts Centre – the Paris of the greater Hamilton area,” said Lucy Darling. “I have just finished a sold-out run at Los Angeles’ Magic Castle and I am so glad we all get to be together again safely in Ontario. The delicious laughter and the excitement of a live show I have missed terribly. I think we all could use a little wonder and magic in our lives again. Can’t wait to see you.”

“Lucy Darling is an unbelievable magician, a gifted comic and a true star. We are privileged to present her first and only Canadian live performance this year” said Burlington Performing Arts Centre Executive Director, Tammy Fox. “Lucy Darling will kick off our 10th anniversary season with a bang! She is a one-of-a-kind entertainer – equal parts mischief and magic, my favourite combination!”

Carisa Hendrix is an award-winning entertainer featured in the Guinness Book of World Records (2014), Ripley’s Believe It Or Not (2015) and in the documentary Carisa Hendrix: Girl on Fire. In 2019, she was the recipient of the prestigious Allan Slaight Award, voted Stage Magician of the Year at the Magic Castle and honoured by England’s oldest and most prestigious magic society, The Magic Circle, with Comedy Magician of the Year. She is presently developing a TV show for the Lucy Darling character and is headlining A Magical Cirque Christmas tour this year to 38 cities across the US.

As per Ontario guidelines, all patrons must show proof of COVID-19 double vaccination to be permitted entry into the facility. The Burlington Performing Arts Centre is pleased to accommodate our patrons at 100% capacity in our facilities.
