May 29, 2026 — BurlingtonGreen

This Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to noon at City View Park, BurlingtonGreen and Rotary Club of Burlington Central invite the community to get outside to take action for our environment, while also learning about local nature, at their free co-hosted event, Get ‘Em by the Roots – a hands-on workshop to identify and remove two invasive plant species.

This event is open to ages 10 and up (accompanied by an adult) and will take place along a stretch of the beautiful Bruce Trail.

May is Invasive Species Action Month across Canada, and community members can still sign up to help improve biodiversity in one of Burlington’s special natural areas.

“This is a rewarding and impactful way to join together with other community members to learn about the negative effects of invasive plant species, while helping to support native plants and wildlife. And it can be very satisfying work, where you see the positive results right away!” says Sue Alksnis, BurlingtonGreen’s Manager of Volunteers, Fundraising and Community Engagement.

For those helping to remove plants, a range of physical activities is available.

Space is limited, advance registration required at https://www.burlingtongreen.org/events/get-em-by-the-roots/.

The program is designed to encourage an opportunity to connect with fellow community members, connect with nature, engage in interactive eco-friendly activities together, and learn how to have a lasting impact for a brighter future.

BurlingtonGreen’s Community Clean Up continues now through October, inviting 14,000 community members to share their litter clean-up plans, be added to a growing map, and receive free supplies. There is also an opportunity to collect and recycle discarded cigarette filters.
