Tickets for an upcoming comedy night at Burlington’s Club 54 are being sold for the benefit of the Burlington Humane Society (BHS).

Club 54 regularly features live comedy, hosted by Ben Guyatt, before the nightly dance party kicks off, but on Friday, April 12, the stand-up comedy show will be presented in recognition of National Shelter Pet Day, which takes place on April 11, and in celebration of BHS’ 50th anniversary.

Not only will there be laughs on the menu courtesy of comedian Steve Cox and host Guyatt, but there will also be door prizes, a 50/50 draw, and a silent auction. And if all that action makes you hungry, there will be food and drinks available for purchase. The dancing starts at 11 p.m., and for those with sufficient stamina, goes all the way to 2 a.m.

Tickets cost $20 each, and 100% of that price goes right back to BHS. They can be purchased online here or in person at the BHS reception desk. Tickets must be picked up at BHS, even if purchased online.

“The money raised from the comedy night will go directly to the care of the animals, for their vet care, and special vet food,” says BHS Executive Director Doug Shirton.

Fundraising is essential to BHS, as they get no government funding to support their costs. Annual fundraising events to keep the animals well-cared for include their Pooch Plunge and Ruff Ride (both scheduled for September), seasonal photoshoots, and more. There are also other campaigns for specific needs — for instance, because Bogart, a mastiff-rottweiler mix, requires heartworm medication in order to be healthy and ready for a new forever home, a GoFundMe page was set up to help fund his treatment.

Because 2024 is the Burlington Humane Society’s 50th anniversary, it’s a great time to make a big push in celebration and support of the shelter. Plans are in the works for a spring market on the weekend before Mother’s Day, with local vendors, plants, and baked goods for sale; a sponsored dog walk campaign through July; and the sale of their 2024 Burlington Humane Calendar ($20 each, available at BHS, the Loft, and the Attic), featuring photos of Burlington’s furry residents.

If you’re looking for a night out for a good cause, head over to BHS at 740 Griffith Court to purchase and pick up your tickets for the April 12 comedy night and dance party at Club 54 (3345 Harvester Rd.).
