Kawartha Dairy is set to open their eleventh retail store in Burlington in spring of this year, and their social media announcement immediately caused excitement amongst Burlington residents.

With most current Kawartha Dairy retail stores around Kawartha Lakes, Lake Simcoe, and in Muskoka, this new Burlington store will mean that fans will no longer have to drive one to four hours to get their favourite flavours in cones or milkshakes.

The new store will be located at 3465 Fairview St., just west of Walkers Line. A Kawartha Dairy representative says that this location will offer “over 45 flavours of rich and creamy premium ice cream, custom-made milkshakes, dairy products, and other local premium offerings.” Amongst the dairy products listed on their website are butter, cream, eggnog, and ice cream cakes [editor’s note: we’re hoping the ice cream cakes will be available in Burlington!].

Kawartha Dairy was started in Bobcaygeon over 80 years ago by Jack and Ila Crowe. For nearly twenty years, milk was their focus. Ice cream production began in the 1950s, and their first dairy bar opened in Minden in the early 1960s. It is that Minden dairy bar that has become a quintessential part of summer for many Muskoka cottage-goers. Although they have come a long way since their 1937 start, all of their milk and ice cream are “still made our traditional way in the cottage country village of Bobcaygeon,” says the company.

Not only that, but Kawartha Dairy is still a family-owned company. Mike Crowe, the director of product development and third-generation owner, says, “Our family is excited to announce the opening of our 11th Kawartha Dairy retail store this spring in Burlington, Ontario. My grandparents, Jack and Ila Crowe, started Kawartha Dairy in 1937; and we’re proud that we still make our rich and creamy premium milk and ice cream our traditional way, using fresh milk and fresh cream from local farms.  We look forward to becoming part of the Burlington community and making more great family memories as we welcome old and new friends to our new store this spring.”

Fan favourites from Kawartha Dairy include Moose Tracks, Death by Chocolate, and Muskoka Mocha; the newest flavours include Campfire S’mores and the treasured East Coast flavour called Moon Mist, a combination of banana, grape, and bubblegum ice creams swirled together.
