The last day of 2022 is upon us, and Local-news.ca would like to thank all of our readers for supporting us, reading our stories, and sending us photos, story ideas, and articles over the last year! We appreciate you.

It’s been an interesting year, with lots of news on development in the City of Burlington, celebrations back in-person after a few years of COVID shutdowns, and a municipal election that brought back the exact same council and mayor.

We took a look back at our most popular stories of 2022. In case you missed any of them, check them out!

Not to toot our own horn too much, but we picked up on the story of Burlington’s PACE (Program for All-Inclusive Care for Elders) before CBC did, and it got lots of attention in early 2022. It’s a great program of older adults, and we’re hearing of its expansion (as Community Wellness Hubs) in Halton: we’ll work to keep you updated when we know more. Read our story here and its follow-up here.

“Your personal engineer,” Eric Chiasson, consistently writes informative and entertaining articles on topics that you might not think of as the stuff of entertainment — but their popularity clearly shows his ability to make railroad crossings, stormwater ponds, and bridges fascinating. Eric’s article on the Burlington GO station parking garage was one of our most popular articles this year. If you haven’t read it, click here!

Development in Burlington is always of interest to our readers. Our most popular articles in this category in 2022 were a guest contribution from Tiffany Tsang, showing how engaged Burlington residents are (linked here), and an article on the Robert Bateman High School sale to the city and remodel into a community centre (linked here and with a more recent update here).

Our 2022 city election coverage was well-read by Burlington residents; we are pleased to have engaged citizens, interested in election news and hope for more voters in the next election! Interestingly, our most popular story in the election section was the school trustee race for the Halton Public School Board in Aldershot (linked here).

Another hot-button article this year was our coyote article, following a number of terrifying and unprovoked coyote attacks. No recent news of coyote attacks in Burlington have surfaced; it seems the city’s measures have been successful, though please read our article (linked here) for information on how to keep coyotes from getting too used to humans (spoiler: don’t feed them).

On a lighter note, our most popular story in December, this last month of 2022, showcased the talent of young Saivi Mani: only 8 years old, already writing short stories, and aiming to be a singer, artist, and author when she grows up (read the story here). We’re sure good things will come to this talented Burlington resident! And do send us your own submissions for Burlington’s Got Talent to us at articles@local-news.ca — we’re always excited to share the cool things that Burlington residents are doing.

We’re excited to keep bringing you informative, accurate news stories, articles from our amazing writers, and more good stuff in 2023! Happy New Year to all of you from Local-news.ca.
