Omar Kayed wants to improve the quality of public-school education through greater use of advanced technology.

“The education system will be better through the use of advanced technology such as Metaverse and teaching kids about finance, Artificial Intelligence and entrepreneurship.”

Kayed is running for the Wards 1 & 2 trustee position on the Halton District School Board. He has been in Europe for the last several weeks and has only now returned to begin his election campaign.

Mr. Kayed is 60 years old and currently lives in Oakville with plans to move to Burlington in 2024. He describes himself as an executive in the world of information technology with over 25 years’ experience. He reports that has been involved with the community by serving as a former director with the Food for Life organization.

Kayed advised reporters this week that he is running to help his community.

“Over the last 18 years, I had several interactions with the board and the education system through my kids. I decided to serve the community and share my learning and experience with other parents and give back to the community.”

Burlington’s Wards 1 & 2 includes Aldershot, Tyandaga, and the downtown area.

There are two other candidates running for the Wards 1 & 2 public school trustee position. They are Sebastian Dumitrescu-Georgescu and Matthew Diodati.

The municipal election will be held October 24.
