MakerKids, the Canadian-based tech education company and first makerspace for kids in North America, expands its award-winning robotics, coding, and minecraft programs with virtual camps, programs, and parties.
“We’ve had overwhelming interest from all over the world in our innovative curriculum and teaching philosophy that focuses on empowering children to develop real life skills and a positive relationship with technology,” says CEO Jennifer Turliuk, a Burlington native whose own childhood experience led her to study at Singularity University in NASA, and the inception of MakerKids.
Turliuk opened the first location in Toronto and expanded via a franchise run by Aimée Savard. Both Jenn and Aimée grew up in Burlington and maintain their community ties. A powerful female duo leading the STEM [science, technology, engineering and mathematics] movement for kids in Canada, they are excited to bring MakerKids’ sought-after curriculum home to Halton.
MakerKids Oakville will roll out its popular virtual camps, parties, and private tutoring this summer, followed by regular weekly programs this fall. “Parents are burnt out right now,” says Savard. “Our highly skilled instructors are keeping kids engaged with fascinating content and learning valuable skills. Our parties let kids have fun and be social in this environment. Oakville and surrounding areas like my hometown, Burlington, are strong family and education-focused communities. They recognize the importance of early STEM education to help kids prep for future, in-demand careers.”
MakerKids Oakville will host a virtual grand opening event by offering a free day camp July 2 for children grades one through eight. Kids can choose either a morning or afternoon session in a theme of their choice between coding, robotics, and minecraft. Beginners are welcome. Space is limited.
Makerkids supports its local communities by hiring local STEM graduates, contributing to school fundraisers, and participating in city events.
