Medpoint Healthcare, a leading provider of executive health services in Ontario, is expanding its operations into Burlington — and for founder Alex Hanham, the move is as personal as it is professional.

“Burlington is my hometown,” Hanham shared. “I went to Frontenac Public School, Lord Elgin High, and swam for the Burlington Centurions before heading to Western. It’s a little surreal for my wife and I to be expanding our executive health business here.”

The new Medpoint location, situated just off the QEW at Walkers Line, offers prime visibility and accessibility — factors Hanham describes as key in selecting Burlington for the company’s next chapter. Beyond the practical appeal, the city’s rapid growth and strong sense of community made it a natural fit.

“Burlington is a great town for connections,” he explained. “Everyone seems open and willing to help. The business community has been incredibly welcoming, not only embracing us but promoting us to others. We’ve already met residents familiar with executive health from other centres in the GTA, but many are frustrated with the high costs elsewhere. Medpoint offers similar or better services at almost half the price, and I really feel we’ll fill a need here.”

At its core, Medpoint Healthcare’s philosophy revolves around three pillars: health screening, healthcare navigation, and lifestyle modification. The company’s executive health program focuses on early detection for conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease while supporting clients in improving their overall well-being through fitness and nutrition plans.

“Our healthcare system has become reactive rather than preventative,” Hanham noted. “We help clients identify their personal risk factors, connect them with family doctors and specialists, and work with them to improve their health and longevity.”

The Burlington facility will initially focus on executive health and feature a 2,500-square-foot medically integrated fitness centre. While the city’s patients will still benefit from Medpoint’s network of more than 28 medical specialists based in London, the company plans to grow its local team as demand increases.

“What really sets us apart is accessibility and affordability,” Hanham said. “Our five-hour Platinum medical includes an abdominal ultrasound, echocardiogram, ECG tests, and more than 25 other assessments. Most of these would take months or even years to coordinate through a family doctor. And compared to other executive health centres like Medcan or the Cleveland Clinic, we offer more comprehensive testing at a much lower cost.”

Maintaining personalized care across multiple locations is a top priority for Medpoint. The company uses a unified electronic medical record system across all sites and invests heavily in training and team culture. “We’re powered by 19 years of operational excellence from our London head office,” said Hanham. “Some of our staff have already relocated to Burlington, and we’re committed to hiring and training locally. We’re here to stay.”

That local hiring commitment is already evident. “Medpoint started with one doctor, two full-time staff, and three part-timers. Today, we have over 60 employees, 10 family doctors, and 28 medical specialists,” Hanham said. “We’ve already hired four people from the Burlington area, and four physicians are joining us soon. From fitness experts to dietitians and ultrasound techs, we’ll be one of the most active hiring organizations in the city.”

To build community connections, Hanham joined the Burlington Chamber of Commerce and sponsored its annual golf tournament. The company’s grand opening on November 12 will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Marianne Meed Ward. On a personal note, Hanham has also joined the local “Burlington Dads” organization, which supports community initiatives.

“Burlington has already been so welcoming,” he said. “If the last few months are any indication, it won’t be a challenge to become well-connected here.”

Beyond providing convenient access to executive health services, Medpoint’s expansion could ease some of the pressure on Ontario’s strained healthcare system. “We’re a complementary service,” Hanham explained. “We keep physicians active, help patients navigate the system more efficiently, and offer virtual care when needed. Our clients tend to become healthier and less reliant on the public system. We also help organizations improve employee health, reduce absenteeism, and lower benefit costs.”

Looking ahead, Hanham envisions Burlington becoming a cornerstone for Medpoint’s future growth. “The Ontario Medical Association estimates that 4.4 million Ontarians will be without access to primary care by 2026,” he said. “With 40% of physicians nearing retirement, we see Medpoint as an affordable preventative solution. Our goal is for the Burlington location to be as busy — if not busier — than our London site by the end of 2026. When that happens, we’ll expand again based on what our clients need.”
