Up to and including April 26, 164,154 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Halton Region at community and hospital-based clinics, mobile clinics, pharmacies, and physicians’ offices.  The numbers include first and second doses given.

According to Halton Region’s data posted online, Burlington currently has 248 active COVID-19 cases, more than double the number reported in last month’s article. In looking back over these articles posted monthly since November 2020, we have never before reported case numbers nearly as high (the previous highest number of cases was 185 in December 2020).

Joseph Brant Hospital is currently caring for 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19, more than three times the number reported in last month’s article, and another unhappy record high.

The provincial declaration of emergency and the stay-at-home order have been extended until at least May 20, 2021. Stick to your household. Only make essential trips outside of your home, for essential work, groceries, medicine, medical appointments, and for exercise. Wear a mask that covers your mouth, nose, and chin, and keep at least a two-metre distance from anyone else. Wash your hands regularly. All indoor and outdoor gatherings are prohibited unless limited to those living in the same household and one other person from outside that household who lives alone.

We are not to use outdoor sports facilities or multi-use fields, including baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis and pickleball courts, basketball courts, BMX and skateboard parks.

And because it’s spring and boaters may be wondering how the orders affect them, we looked up our local marina. There is no current information about COVID-19 posted on the LaSalle Park Marina Association website nor on pages on the same site related to the Burlington Sailing and Boating Club, Able Sail, or the BSBC Sailing School. A February 24 alert indicates that up-to-date rules “will be posted on our website as well as on the marina bulletin board and office. …Any and all marina users will be required to sign this form indicating that they understand, and will abide by, all of the posted rules. …This is serious stuff, life threatening. We can’t take it lightly [emphasis ours].”

We can’t say it any more clearly than that.
