Brock University officially opened its Burlington Campus on Monday, October 6, inside the Robert Bateman Community Centre — marking a milestone for both the university and for the city’s vision of creating inclusive, community-driven spaces.

“The Robert Bateman Community Centre represents the very best of Burlington’s vision for inclusive, innovative, and community-driven spaces,” said Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward. “This phased opening marks a significant milestone in our journey to create a hub where education, recreation, and collaboration thrive together.”

The Honourable Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence, and Security, joined the celebration to announce a $5.2-million provincial investment that will create 360 new teacher education spaces at Brock. “By expanding Brock University’s Teacher Education program, our government is bringing more excellent teachers to communities across the province to prepare our students for rewarding careers,” he said.

The Burlington Campus is home to Brock’s Teacher Education and Applied Disability Studies programs, supported by state-of-the-art learning spaces, science labs, and research areas. Students began attending classes at the new campus in September.

“The Burlington Campus represents a strong step forward toward Brock’s strategic goals,” said Brock University’s president and vice-chancellor, Dr. Lesley Rigg. “It’s a reflection of our growth, our dedication to innovation, and our deep belief in the power of higher education to transform lives and communities.”

The new location also includes a satellite office of the Hadiya’dagénhahs First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Student Centre, which will provide cultural programming and engagement opportunities. While Brock has not yet partnered with Indigenous organizations in the Halton region, the university has expressed openness to future collaborations that strengthen community connections.

Meed Ward highlighted the importance of Brock’s presence in Burlington, calling it “a testament to the power of collaboration.” She added, “We are proud partners in training the new generation of teachers who will, in turn, train the next generation of leaders in our community — our children.”

With its official opening, Brock University’s Burlington Campus stands as a symbol of educational growth and partnership — a place where learning and community continue to thrive together.
