Zepplin’s story is one of desperation to hope, and we hope that his story will inspire you to help Burlington Humane continue nurturing him until he is ready to find his forever home.
A few days ago, the doors of Burlington Humane burst open as a man and his young daughter rushed in, cradling a tiny, lifeless kitten in their arms. Zepplin wasn’t moving. His breathing was shallow, his body cold and limp. It was clear he was slipping away.
Moments earlier, they had stopped at Fortino’s when they spotted him, collapsed against the wheel of their car. Without a second thought, the father scooped him up and held him close as they raced to Burlington Humane, praying he would make it.
When they arrived, our staff acted instantly. Wrapped in a blanket, Zepplin was rushed to the Burlington Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital. His heartbeat was faint. His breaths were fragile. We feared he might not survive the short drive — but we refused to give up on him.
At the hospital, the emergency team worked tirelessly. Oxygen, fluids, constant monitoring — every moment was critical. For two long days, Zepplin hovered between life and death. Then, slowly, his breathing steadied, his tiny chest rising with new strength. A spark returned to his eyes. Against all odds, Zepplin survived.
Today, he’s back at Burlington Humane, still weak but fighting, proving that hope can shine even in the darkest moments. His emergency care costs were enormous, and his recovery will take time, but Zepplin deserves every chance at the life he fought so hard to keep.
