July 16, 2025 — Halton District School Board

The Halton District School Board is proud to announce that two students have been selected as Schulich Leaders, Canada’s largest and most prestigious Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) scholarship:

  • Diya Kalia, Grade 12 student from Garth Webb Secondary School
  • Heidi Huang, Grade 12 student from Iroquois Ridge High School

Schulich Leaders are students who have been selected by one of 20 universities to receive a scholarship worth $120,000 or $100,000 to pursue an undergraduate degree in STEM. Selected from a pool of more than 350,000 candidates across the country, Diya and Heidi are among 100 recipients to receive this scholarship in Canada.

On behalf of the Halton District School Board, I want to express how proud we are of these outstanding students. Their achievements reflect not only their own hard work and determination, but also the supportive learning environments in our schools that foster curiosity, innovation and leadership, particularly in STEM. We wish them continued success as they begin this exciting next chapter, and we look forward to seeing the meaningful contributions they will make in their postsecondary studies and future careers.
Director of Education Curtis Ennis, Halton District School Board

Diya will be attending McMaster University’s Engineering program, and Heidi will be attending Western University for a dual degree in Computer Science (BSc) and Ivey Business Administration (HBA).
