To reach someone within your own city, you need a working cellphone. To reach someone on the other side of the world, you need a functional laptop and a good Wi-Fi connection. To reach someone on the other side, you need an experienced, in-touch medium with the diplomatic skills of an ambassador and the people skills of a social worker. They are an intermediary, an ally, and a representative of the spiritual realm that cannot always contact our world independently. Helen Peacock, a local Burlington psychic with her own website and podcast, is such an individual, and she’s available.

Peacock possesses an in-demand skill that the people of Burlington are growing increasingly inclined to employ. As we have emerged out of a pandemic, many people have transitioned into a heightened state of awareness of mortality and are eager to learn more about what comes next. Though some people might not believe in life after death or the possibility of connecting with our loved ones after they’ve died, many people find solace in the idea. Full-time or part-time mediums and other spirits workers like Helen provide both a service and a balm for people who are grieving, or for those who are simply curious.

Like any other profession, the work of a psychic also has its role to play in a thriving economy. Peacock happily agreed to speak out about her daily life earning a living as a message-bearer for the dead and how she entered this precarious profession, both spiritually and in a practical business sense.

Peacock on the structure of her business:
This is my career. It’s both my full-time job and my main source of income. There are different avenues of what I do. A lot of people think it’s just one-on-one. My favourite type of session to do is events. If there’s a dinner event or fundraising event, I love those because the vibration and the energy in the space is just phenomenal. Then I do group readings as well. That will be with their family or friends, or a blend of both. I usually do that right around the whole Niagara region. I’m already booked with a whole bunch of people from Burlington as well. My name is getting out there in Burlington. I’m originally from Mississauga, the Port Credit area. So it’s kind of nice to have a new window to work with. I can also do Zoom sessions and in-person as well.

Peacock on becoming a psychic and harnessing her gift:
I’m a woman of many hats. You mention it, I’ve done it. When my youngest son was born, that was right around the time my grandmother passed away. And so with a lot of changes, a lot of shifts had taken place. Before I decided to become a full-time mom, I was working in the corporate world. I’ve also done flight attending, and I’ve also been a performer. Then I was a bartender. When I moved into holistics, that’s when everything really started to shift. It was like the universe was saying, “Okay, you’re ready now, right?”

I had to expand my library in order for spirits to work with me. It just became stronger. I’ve always been sensitive. I’ve always been a very strong empath. I’ve always been interested in the unknown world. The mystical. Solving mysteries. Things like that. I’m always that person that just likes to go down the rabbit hole as well. I couldn’t fully understand it, so that’s when I decided I needed to hone it in. I searched out the best teachers that could help me through this. Then it just took off.

Peacock on her “personal library” and how it helps in her work:
I create content in my personal library: my “life references” for the Loved Ones [spirits] to use to “impress” on me to convey their messages. Then I have to “interpret” what they are trying to communicate. For example, I will watch movies and documentaries as visuals that stay in my memory. So if I ever watched a movie regarding a woman who owns/worked in a flower shop, I may have a Loved One show me a scene from that movie to indicate they loved flowers or worked or owned a flower shop. Or someone left flowers at their graveyard and they wanted to acknowledge that.

Peacock on maintaining her own quality of life and a typical workday:
Usually, I make my mornings about myself and that’s going to the gym, doing my meditations, or whatever it is I need to do to raise my frequency, to put me in my space. Morning time is all about me. I go to the gym quite often because I need to move my energy. I can’t just sit all the time. As long as I know I’m taking care of my vessel. Then, the afternoon is my preparation for my clients. I’ll limit how many clients I have throughout the day so I can conserve my energy.

If you’re a client and I meet with you, the first thing I ask you is “What are you hoping to get from your session today?” That’s the first thing that comes right out of my mouth. Sometimes what happens is that I have clients that are not even interested in the connection with loved ones. They just want a spiritual connection. They’re looking for guidance, for whatever that may be. And trust me, there’s all kinds out there. So that’s where I say to them, “Just so you know, I’m strictly just the messenger, the channeler for your loved ones. Your spirit guides know everything about me.” They [the spirits] use my personal library as a reference. It’s whatever they impress on me. Sometimes I just go into a channel and the words just flow, so it’s between spiritual guidance and connections with loved ones and spirit.

Peacock on the challenges of scheduling her clientele and utilizing modern technology for her business:
I can’t say I really have any challenges. Maybe being in demand. Seeing everybody when they want to see me. That would probably be the only challenge because there are a lot of clients who are working full-time and they can’t come see me in the evenings. My evenings are geared for groups. I have to conserve my energy for my groups. I also have to go to my yoga classes. But I do make a point of opening up my window on Saturdays. On Sundays, I take time out for my family and Mondays are for administrative work, like my postings on social media, and my newsletters. Each day, I typically work with two to three clients. Any more is pushing it energy-wise. I prefer Zoom for my sessions. If I’m tied to my desk because of in-person sessions or tied to my home, I can’t get up and go when I want. As long as there’s Wi-Fi, wherever I want to go, I can still work.

Bookings with Peacock for readings and workshops can be made directly on her website. She has upcoming Zoom events that can be signed up for in advance, such as her December “Christmas with Spirit.” She regularly updates her podcast, Spirit Chat with Helen Peacock.
