The Rotary Club of Oakville (RCO) is pleased to share that the Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) is the recipient of $45,000 raised at the annual Rotary Golf to Give Tournament held at Piper’s Heath Golf Club on September 14. Many thanks to our tournament sponsors, golfers, and dinner guests whose support enables Rotarians to give back to the community and, in this case, support children and youth in need.
One in eight students in Halton live in poverty; this includes Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Georgetown, and Halton Hills. As a registered charity, HLF supports education equity and opportunities for Halton District School Board (HDSB) students by helping to remove financial barriers. On hand for the cheque presentation were Cecil Arnold, Chair, HLF Board of Directors; Marc Clare, HLF CEO; Bob Miskelly, RCO Tournament Chair; Susan Sheppard, RCO President; Tara Conley, HLF Board Member; and Mike Henry, RCO Community Services Chair.
“We are so thankful to the Rotary Club of Oakville and everyone who supported this year’s Golf to Give Tournament. Every dollar raised will help a Halton student who may be facing a financial barrier to their education that is beyond their family’s control. Their generous support reminds us that when our community comes together, we can make sure no student has to miss out on the essentials or experiences that help them feel included at school,” said Marc Clare, CEO, Halton Learning Foundation
“One in eight children live in poverty in Halton, but the Halton Learning Foundation is there to support those in need. Rotarians are pleased to help them in their efforts to remove financial barriers that would otherwise impact a child’s school experience and thank them for making a difference every day,” added Sheppard, RCO President.
For over 100 years, Oakville Rotarians have raised funds through special events to support local area charities and not-for-profits, dispersing financial aid to many deserving organizations and their very worthy projects and initiatives. As well, funds are donated and leveraged to support Rotary International projects that impact the global community in a meaningful way.
