For Oakville’s Joseph Tassoni, fashion has never been simply about what people wear. It is about how clothing makes people feel, how they carry themselves when they enter a room, and the energy they bring with them. On Friday, September 18, 2026, the Greater Toronto fashion scene will again experience Tassoni’s distinctive approach when Arcadia Earth becomes the backdrop for Natural Authority, his Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter 2027 collection.

Now entering its fourth year, the Joseph Tassoni runway experience has become an annual opportunity for fashion lovers, creatives, entrepreneurs, and members of the community to step into the world he creates. This year, however, Tassoni is stripping the presentation back and allowing the clothing, textures, and atmosphere to speak for themselves. “Natural Authority for me is where I am right now,” Tassoni said. “I don’t need to be the loudest person to be seen or heard, and that’s what I wanted the collection to represent.”

That philosophy is at the heart of the collection, which explores the idea of owning your power without needing to demand attention. Tassoni describes it as an expression of inner energy, translated through strong tailoring, considered fabrics, and silhouettes designed to make the wearer feel magnetic.

“I wanted the collection to be representative of your inner power, owning your power, and then, through great cuts, through great fabrics, it illustrated that inner energy,” he said. Rather than focusing on being louder, the collection is about becoming more intentional, more confident and more magnetic in one’s own presence.

For Tassoni, that sense of magnetism is closely connected to sensuality. He describes Natural Authority as his most sensual collection to date. The presentation has also been dramatically edited, with approximately 50 looks replacing last year’s much larger collection of about 100. “I really took it down, I stripped it down,” he said. “I want this to create a feeling with my audience, and the feeling that I want to create is that I want people to feel desire. I want people to feel this sense of sensuality from it.”

That sensuality is communicated less through an explosion of colour and more through texture. Black plays a significant role in the collection, accompanied by sheer fabrics, linens, patent leather, mesh, and other materials that interact differently with the body. Tassoni sees texture as another way of telling a story, allowing the same garment to take on different personalities depending on how it is styled and worn. “This year’s more about texture than colour,” he said.

The collection also features an emphasis on suiting, clean lines, and sharp shoulders, combined with unexpected fabric combinations and layered proportions. Nylon, wool, and mesh come together in silhouettes that shift between structured and sensual, creating pieces that can feel polished while still retaining an element of intimacy. Tassoni’s approach is rooted in the belief that clothing should give people room to express themselves rather than dictate who they should be. His pieces are available up to size 4X, reflecting his continued commitment to making the collection accessible across a broad range of bodies.

The idea of returning to something fundamental is also central to the meaning behind Natural Authority. Tassoni describes the collection as stripping down to an original framework, almost like returning to a blank canvas before rebuilding and reconnecting with the art of dressing.

“It’s stripping it down, I would say, almost to the basics, and then reconnecting with yourself and the art of dressing,” he said.

That philosophy extends beyond the garments themselves. Over the past several years, Tassoni’s runway presentations have also become a way of introducing audiences to Canadian fashion while creating opportunities for people and businesses to connect. As an independent Canadian designer, he says producing a large-scale runway presentation is not simply about putting clothes on a stage. It is also about creating the platform that he wishes existed for emerging and independent designers.

“For us as Canadian designers, there’s no platform to show,” Tassoni said. “When I have been doing the shows, it’s been about educating the public about what Canada is, bringing a community together, also ensuring that the guest experience is seamless, but also at the most elevated level possible.”

That community focus has become an important part of the experience. Tassoni says audiences look forward to the event as an opportunity to access the world he creates and connect with local business owners, artists, professionals, and fashion enthusiasts.

“Going into the fourth year, the community wants it,” he said. “People look forward to this every year because it’s a way for them to access the world that I create, but also access the community.”

This year, Tassoni is once again reimagining how guests experience the runway. Rather than presenting the collection simultaneously in two rooms as he did last year, the same show will be presented twice in one room, at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The smaller audience capacity is intended to make the experience more intimate and personal, while giving guests time to explore Arcadia Earth’s immersive art environment before and after the presentation.

“It’s a wonderful night,” he said. “If you can find someone to babysit your kids, or just if you want to take yourself out, see and experience community, see and experience fashion, this is the space for it.”

The experience begins even before the evening runway presentations. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 18, Tassoni will host Shop the Runway on the terrace at Arcadia Earth, giving guests the opportunity to purchase samples and archival pieces from his collection.

The evening will conclude with an official afterparty at EPOCH Bar and Kitchen Terrace at the Ritz-Carlton, Toronto, extending the celebration beyond the runway itself.

Behind the glamour, Tassoni also continues to use the event as an opportunity to support initiatives that matter to him. His mental health and inclusivity initiatives will return this year, including a silent auction supporting the purchase of inclusive in-patient gown coverage through Red FX at George Brown College. This initiative reflects the designer’s belief that fashion events can serve a purpose beyond entertainment, creating spaces where people feel seen, connected, and included.

Ultimately, Natural Authority appears to be less about making an entrance and more about understanding what happens after you walk through the door. It is about confidence without performance, sensuality without excess and fashion as an extension of the person wearing it. For Tassoni, creativity begins with a simple question about how he wants to feel and what he wants to communicate.

“When I walk into a room, how do I want to feel? I want to feel sexy. I want to feel empowered,” he said.
