The Halton Black History Awareness Society (HBHAS) invites Halton residents to join their annual holiday party on November 30 at the Burlington branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Kick off the holiday season with dancing, a cash bar, and light refreshments alongside fellow community members.
HBHAS is pleased to bring together Halton leaders, the HBHAS team, and volunteers with sponsors, their community and festival project partners, and the general public to enjoy the sounds of the Blackburn Brothers.
The Blackburn Brothers have a long list of accolades for their blues, funk, and soul music, from being nominated for multiple Maple Blues Awards and Juno Awards, and winning the 2010 Maple Blues Award, to their 2024 win for best soul/blues album at the Blues Blast Music Awards. In 2023, the group was inducted into the Canada South Blues Society Hall of Fame.
Dennis Scott, HBHAS chair, describes the Blackburn Brothers: “Four brothers: (Robert (songwriter/sax); Brooke (exquisite guitar and vocals); Duane, mesmerizing keyboard and vocal eloquence; and Cory, scintillating rhythms and funk/soul drumming, joined up with classic funk bassist cousin, Nathan Blackburn, extraordinary sax from the infamous Neil Braithwaite and the “blow the barn down” trombone of Ted Peters. This world-class blues and soul band were brought to music through the influence of their bluesman father Bobby Dean Blackburn, who was awarded the Mississauga Walk of Fame for bringing R&B to the GTHA. These seventh-generation slave descendants are promoters of family, roots, and culture through their messages of positivity.”
Bring your non-perishable food donation for the Burlington Food Bank, and put on your cocktail attire for a night of grooving to the beat; the party starts at 8 p.m. Click here to purchase your tickets ($35 each).
