The Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton and the Halton Equity Diversity Roundtable have partnered to host a lunch and learn session called “Resonance of Resilience: Celebrating Black History Month” on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024.

This free diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) training opportunity will explore the cultural significance of the steelpan, the history of which begins with enslaved Africans who were transported to the Caribbean in the 1700s. As with much of Black history, there are elements of resistance and resilience; explore these themes via the story of the iconic steelpan.

Starting at 11 a.m. at Oakville’s Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, the event includes an art gallery tour, a catered Caribbean lunch, and a steelpan presentation by LuckyStickz, entitled “Harmony in Innovation.” “Resonance of Resilience” is set to end at 1 p.m.
