A portion of North Service Road near King Road will be closed from January 15 until March 2024 after a culvert collapse under the bridge over Indian Creek. The 150-metre section of road must be completely removed to replace the culvert.
The section of road to be replaced is in front of the building currently inhabited by the Cultivated B (formerly the L-3 Wescam building) at 649 North Service Rd.
According to Ward 1’s Councillor Kelvin Galbraith, the cost of the work will be split between the City of Burlington and Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation. Galbraith noted that King Rd. will still be open for northbound and westbound traffic, but traffic from the east on the service road will not be able to get through to King Rd.
The city has provided detour maps online (and see main image); drivers will be able to use King Road, Plains Road East, and Brant Street. Plains Road traffic will likely increase; drivers may consider taking the QEW if possible or other alternate routes.
After the North Service Road culvert and road has been repaired, there will be a culvert replacement resulting in a 200-metre closure of King Road, from the north side of the North Service Road, ending before King Forest Court. This work is scheduled to start and finish in March 2024.
