Tomorrow, Tues., Nov. 28, is GivingTuesday, a worldwide movement centred around giving and volunteerism. Halton Gives is the local movement championing GivingTuesday, working to strengthen the community, and support local agencies to continue their work helping Halton residents.
Throughout Halton, charitable organizations have specific campaigns or activities especially for GivingTuesday, from social media campaigns to donation-matching programs. Community Living Burlington is one such local agency, getting ready to launch their “6 Days, 6 Ways” on social media (@clburlington), spreading the power of positive change online. Follow, like, and share to participate. As Community Living Burlington says, “Let’s amplify our impact together and create a world where everyone belongs.”
The Burlington-based Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services will start a big fundraising campaign as part of GivingTuesday; they’re looking to raise $22,000 to revamp their sensory room with a teardrop hanging chair, an abstract tactile panel, a TheraBand wobble board, and other items. Woodview’s sensory room serves over 80 children with autism, ranging in age from 2 years old to 17, and have partnered with Tommy Gun’s Barbershop, with Tap to Give $10 available at their 108-491 Appleby Line location (you can also donate by clicking here). Tommy Gun’s is also supporting people with sensory sensitivities by offering “Quiet Cut Tuesdays” on the first Tuesday of every month.
Halton-based agencies with donation-matching programs launching for GivingTuesday include the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, Milton’s Darling Home for Kids, and the Oakville and Milton Humane Society. Then there’s Acclaim Health, who is presenting “Judy’s Journey” on their website, recognizing Judy’s strength in the face of her challenges as a caregiver, and how she navigated that journey with the help of Acclaim’s staff and programs.
