Aug. 29, 2023 — From the Burlington Performing Arts Centre

In celebration of the Ontario Culture Days Festival, the Burlington Performing Arts Centre (BPAC) will open its doors to the public on Saturday, September 23 from 12 p.m.–4 p.m., offering performances and activities in partnership with local community artists and arts organizations. The afternoon’s programming will feature a series of live music and theatre performances, as well as audience-participation dance demonstrations and tours of the venue, all offered free of charge to the general public in the heart of downtown Burlington.

The Burlington Footnotes and Mattson & Company Dancers will each perform dance numbers and invite the audience to participate in interactive dance demonstrations. The Burlington Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and their conductor Denis Mastromonaco will perform light classics in BPAC’s Main Theatre while The Burlington New Millennium Orchestra (BNMO) duo “JoyRide” with Charles Cozens and Colin Maier will play on piano and accordion in the Community Studio Theatre. The Burlington Student Theatre will perform excerpts from Aladdin and The Little Mermaid, while Trevor Copp of Tottering Biped Theatre will treat patrons to mime pieces he has toured across Ontario. Patrons will be treated to a sneak-peek of BPAC’s upcoming ‘Live & Local’ series with local singer-songwriters Emma Whale and Jesse Adams. Discover the opera with a showcase by The Southern Ontario Lyric Opera (SOLO) and learn more about this dynamic company with its Artistic Director Sabatino Vacca.

Led by Executive Director, Tammy Fox, The Burlington Performing Arts Centre has been participating in the ON Culture Days Festival since 2017 and in 2019 BPAC was the recipient of the ON Culture Days “Best Community Hub” Award. “This is an exciting opportunity to showcase Burlington’s wealth of artistic talent while removing barriers to performing arts participation by offering free accessibility to the community,” says Fox. The Ontario Culture Days Festival is an annual celebration of arts and culture across the province providing free community art events that support the engagement and awareness of the arts in our communities.
