Pooch Plunge is back at Nelson Pool on Saturday, September 9 for another day of fun for your furballs, all in the name of raising money for the Burlington Humane Society (BHS).
For that day only, Burlington’s canine residents can dive in (or walk in via the shallow entry for less adventurous types) before the pool is shut down and cleaned for the winter.
Just like last year, if you’d like to take your best furry friend for a swim, you’ll have to register in advance, and the cost is $25 for your first dog and $10 for each additional fur-sibling (up to a maximum of three dogs per handler). If your dog is under 25 lb, you can register for the small dog swim from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.; pups of any size can go for a 45-minute dip at 2 p.m., 3 p.m., or 4 p.m.
Dogs must leave their humans on the deck, though their people are still responsible for their dogs (and any accompanying children under 12 years old) at all times; if any dog behaves aggressively (towards humans or other dogs), handlers must leash their dog and take them out of the pool enclosure. There will be lifeguards at the event, but they are responsible for watching over the humans only. The fenced-in pool deck will be an off-leash area for the event, and if any bathroom visits are necessary, humans must stoop and scoop. Only fully-vaccinated pooches over 4 months old can participate.
