The Canada Day and Burlington 150+ event on July 1 in Spencer Smith Park was a hit, judging by the crowds of people in attendance. Rob Preuss, formerly of Spoons and Honeymoon Suite, was amongst those who took to the stage to entertain the crowds, as did Finger Eleven and Silverstein. To the delight of the crowd, Mayor Marianne Meed Ward was called on stage to join in on a song with Rob Preuss and Friends.

Food trucks featuring funnel cake, pizza, ice cream, and, of course, poutine (how could you not for Canada Day?) were available for the eating, with some vendors doted around the edges of the celebration. Friends and families gathered on the grass to listen to the music, share some food, and play catch.

BurlingtonGreen was on hand to help with proper waste disposal (see right of photo); the funnel cake stand (centre back) was a popular choice amongst event-goers.

Mayor Meed Ward, former mayors Rob MacIsaac and Rick Goldring, and councillors Lisa Kearns, Rory Nisan, and Paul Sharman were all on hand to join in the festivities. Mayor Meed Ward presented the Key to the City to Beverly Kingdon, honoured for her work as the “driving force behind the Trumpeter Swan Restoration Group.”
