The long and lazy days of summer are a perfect time to indulge in a great read. And we’re here to help you make the most of it with our Summer Reading Club for all ages. Both kids and adults can benefit from a daily dose of reading — and here are five ways Summer Reading Club delivers.
1. Reading keeps your brain in shape
Avoid the reading slump! Reading throughout the summer helps children maintain literacy skills, feed their curiosity and imagination, and learn new things. Encourage the kids in your life to read all summer long so they’re ready to jump back into the school routine in September. And there’s good news for adults who make reading a daily habit. Reading stimulates creativity, helps reduce stress, enhances memory, and supports self-improvement. Summer Reading Club helps you start and stick to a reading routine your brain will love!
2. Meeting a goal feels great
Setting a reasonable goal and achieving it is a great way to feel good about yourself, whatever your age. And goals can be fun! Consider challenging your family members to see who can read the most books this summer. Or maybe set a goal to read all the books by a favourite author, all the books in a series — or all the books we’ve Handpicked For You! If you love reading but are pressed for time, make the number of minutes spent reading your weekly goal. And when you’ve met your goal, be sure to check in with us online or in person for a chance to win prizes.
3. There are prizes!
Even though reading a good book is its own reward, you also have a chance to win a $25 gift card to a local business every week. Added to this, when you check in every week, we also enter your name into our end-of-summer grand prize draw for a Fitbit Versa (adults and teens), Xspirit Hoverboard (ages 9–12), a Flicker Scooter (ages 6–8) and a 3-in-1 Scooter (ages 0–5). And if you make it to the halfway point of SRC, we’ll reward you with a voucher to make a free button in our MakerSpace!
4. A gift lands in your inbox
When you join Summer Reading Club, we take the guesswork out of what to read next. We send freshly curated Staff Picks booklists to you every week, along with a friendly reminder to check-in.
5. You become part of a reading community
“Create Curiosity” is what this year’s Summer Reading Club is all about! Expand your reading adventure and engage in library programs with like-minded folks throughout the summer. Curious kids can become dinosaur detectives, dance around the world, find their inner calm, and explore STEAM concepts with our popular Junior and Tween Maker Buddies for ages 6 to 12. And there are author talks, book clubs, and lifestyle workshops for curious adults, too.
Summer Reading Club registration opens on Saturday, June 24. The program runs until Sunday, September 3.
