This year’s week-long Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign launched May 1, and runs through to May 7, with 100% of proceeds of each smile cookie sold in Burlington to be donated to the Burlington Food Bank.

The kick-off campaign on May 1 was met with enthusiasm at the Tim Hortons location at 29 Plains Road West, in the Aldershot community. Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and Ward 1 Councillor Kelvin Galbraith joined to celebrate the launch of the campaign. Volunteers from the Burlington Food Bank also popped into the kitchen to help ice the iconic smiles on the chocolate chip cookies, while Burlington Food Bank’s Executive Director Robin Bailey expressed that this year’s goal is to sell over 67,000 smile cookies in Burlington. This would raise approximately $100,500 for the organization, whose aim is to help the most vulnerable in our very own community.

The Smile Cookie campaign dates back to 1996, and was originally held to raise funds for Hamilton Children’s Hospital. Since its launch, the campaign has raised more than $92 million for charities and organizations across North America, which are selected by Tim Hortons restaurant owners each year. Last year raised a whopping $15 million across Canada, benefitting over 600 local charities and organizations.

Smile cookies are available at participating locations across the city for $1.50, and customers can also purchase special smile cookie pins for $2 to support the cause.
