Earth Day is an annual event celebrated worldwide on April 22 to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainability. Burlington is one of the many cities that participate in this global celebration with events and initiatives that encourage residents to take action for the planet.

One of the key events in Burlington is the annual Community Clean Up Green Up, organized by the BurlingtonGreen. This event invites volunteers to help clean up litter and debris in local parks, trails, and waterfront areas. This not only helps to improve the appearance of the city but also prevents trash from entering waterways and harming wildlife. Though the signature Earth Day Green Up Tree Planting event, where participants join together in planting trees at Millcroft Park, is full, there is still time to put together a Clean Up team for this year’s event. Planting trees can play a crucial role in combating climate change, and cleaning up our local communities helps beautify our city as well, making this event a chance to make a positive impact on the planet.

You can register your Clean Up team on the BurlingtonGreen website here. Don’t miss this chance to get involved in your community and celebrate Earth Day meaningfully!

The Halton Environmental Network (HEN) is pulling out all the stops to celebrate their anniversary on Earth Day. On April 22, the community is invited to a sophisticated black-tie gala event, where attendees can look forward to a delectable farm-to-table meal sourced from local farms.

The event will also feature a special guest speaker, whose identity is yet to be announced. But that’s not all! Guests will have the chance to participate in a silent auction showcasing exclusive items and experiences. And the best part? All proceeds will support HEN’s community initiatives dedicated to enhancing environmental sustainability throughout Halton.

With a reputation for hosting engaging and informative events, HEN’s Earth Day Gala promises to be an unforgettable experience. So, don’t miss out on this opportunity to celebrate Earth Day in style while contributing to a meaningful cause. Get your black-tie attire ready for a night of glamour and philanthropy!

Get ready for Earth Day with the Halton Outdoor Club! Join them in a day of environmental clean-up and make a positive impact on our planet. The event promises to be an exciting and rewarding experience for all participants. Here are some things to keep in mind before the event.

Make sure to wear brightly coloured clothing and consider bringing an HOC safety triangle if you have one. Dress according to the weather as mud is a possibility on the trails, and don’t forget your sun hat, sunglasses, water bottle/travel mug, bug spray/tick prevention, and litter stick if you have one. Coffee will be available, but let’s all go green and bring our own mug.

Garbage bags and gloves will be provided for the clean-up, and for those interested, the group will gather for lunch at the Judge and Jury Pub at 1222 Walkers Line. The event is open to both club members and non-members who would like to help out with the clean-up. However, registration is required, so please put your name on the waitlist if it’s full, as they can extend their clean-up efforts with more people.

It’s important to note that if your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot. Let’s all come together and make a difference this Earth Day by cleaning up and preserving our environment. Join the Halton Outdoor Club and be a part of the solution.

The City of Burlington caused quite the buzz amongst nature lovers this Earth Day by offering an incredible deal: 500 free trees for lucky residents! In an effort to promote environmental sustainability and the importance of tree planting, Burlington  gave away these four-to-five-foot beauties to those who registered in advance and had a suitable vehicle to safely transport them. For more information on the initiative, click here.

This initiative has received widespread support from the local community, who have praised the city’s efforts to promote eco-friendliness and sustainability. Not only do these trees help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but they also enhance the natural beauty of the city’s landscape, providing much-needed shade and habitat for wildlife.

So, if you were one of the lucky few to secure a free tree from Burlington, be sure to give it the love and care it deserves! And for those who missed out this time, keep an eye out for future initiatives that promote environmental sustainability — because every little bit counts! Happy Earth Day, everyone!
