By Lee-Ann Meyer, volunteer at the Burlington Humane Society

I thought it was time I introduced myself to you all. I am Sass, a.k.a. Sassafrass or Sassy, and I am a one year and eight month old Newfie/German shepherd mix. I’m a large breed girl with an even bigger heart.

I am the longest canine resident at the Burlington Humane Society and have been here since I was surrendered in June 2022.

I am very happy at the shelter as I have a much better life now than where I came from but I would really love a home of my own.

I enjoy car rides, walks, playing, pup cups from Starbucks, and going on adventures with the volunteers. I love other dogs and even the cats at the shelter are my friends.

I am muzzle-trained and I must always wear my muzzle when I’m off the property and in public, as I don’t like strangers. The humans call this behaviour “stranger danger.”

I have been working really hard with a great trainer since I arrived at the shelter and together with the staff and all the volunteers I am making great progress when meeting new people. It takes time for me to trust new people but as they say, all good things comes to those that wait.

I’m looking for a spacious adult-only home, as I’m a big girl with a big personality. My new family will need to continue to work with me and must be willing to advocate for my space. My current trainer will be available to assist my new family.

I love to play and run around. Snow and water are two of my favourite things. A fenced-in yard would be awesome, then I can play all day long. The Newfie in me LOVES the cold and the snow and I would sleep outside if I had it my way…but these humans think I’m going to freeze and tuck me into my warm bed inside my heated kennel at night lol…

During the summer I spent my days in the pool and running through the sprinklers. Just imagine all the fun we can enjoy together on those hot summer days.

I’m extremely affectionate with the people I’ve gotten to know and trust and nothing makes me happier than spending time with the humans at the shelter. I adore the people that I feel safe with and I will do anything with them. I’ve overheard the humans say that I’m their favourite at the shelter…P.S….please don’t let the other dogs know…

If you are looking for a loyal and loving best friend look no further. You can read more about me on the website at  www.burlingtonhumane.ca.

Lots of cuddles and kisses, Sass.

Sass is available for adoption through the Burlington Humane Society. If you fall in love and want to adopt one of the pets featured in “Adoptable Pet of the Week,” go to the Adopt a Cat or Kitten or the Adopt a Dog or Puppy page on their website for more information on how to proceed.
