The Neighbourhood Community Matching Fund (NCMF) is a City of Burlington initiative that offers community-led projects funding of up to $10,000.

For approved projects, the NCMF gives each neighbourhood or community group 50% of their project funds, which must be matched by the group, via donated serves, materials, or supplies; volunteer hours; or funds raised in other ways.

Guidelines for the 2023 NCMF state the focus will be on “small projects that enhance infrastructure amenities within parks, gardens, buildings on public or private lands that are accessible to the public and meet the goal of the fund.” The projects must be planned, including a budget and timeline, and carried out by the community group within one year, and the group must seek out engagement and letters of support from other residents in the neighbourhood as part of the funding application.

Eligible projects are those that are open to the wider community, aim to strengthen, enhance or beautify the community and/or connections within it, improve safety, improve existing parks, or foster arts and culture within the neighbourhood.

Past projects that received funding include the Orchard Community Garden Project, a community garden in Roseland, and improvements for the garden at St. Christopher’s Church to promote wellbeing.

To apply for the NCMF, complete the application form (found on the city’s website; click here) and submit the application form, budget, support letters and project plan to matchingfund@burlington.ca by Feb. 28, 2023.
