Tony Brecknock is running for councillor in Ward 4 and he’s been out meeting residents since he submitted his nomination papers in the spring. He’s lived in Burlington for over 50 years, lives in Ward 4, and has been involved in a variety of election campaigns behind the scenes. This is his first foray putting his name forward. His website is brecknock.com and there you will see some of his key messages: Let’s talk about it. Let’s fix it.

Tony’s background includes a variety of television broadcast, video and direct marketing experience, editing, managing, directing and producing. He’s been a hockey and soccer coach, a board member, a business owner, and brings volunteer experience, team work, financial and charitable experience to the role.  He wants to effect changes that mean something to people. His description in our interview was to take the “medium-warm” pace and move it to “boiling.”

He’s hearing about speeding in neighbourhoods as the top issue in Ward 4. “We need to slow down.” Parks are the next area of concern, completing unfinished projects, keeping up with maintenance, and being sure community input is heard. His view is that you “cannot ever err too far on the side of helping people.”  He gave several examples of talking with people who need help and following up on their issues. It was clear that he cares. He is already advocating for residents. While he admits that he doesn’t have all the answers, he is certainly committed to asking the questions. If elected, he plans to hit the ground running.

With his background as a manager and in communications, he will find the information needed and find the person who has the necessary expertise. His work has included travel to a variety of countries and he draws on some of the things he has seen in those travels. He has learned a lot and listens. He is committed to ensure that residents are heard and respected. On his website, you can sign up for his newsletter.
