I was pleased to learn more about Rick Greenspoon in an interview last week. Rick is running in the 2022 municipal election, for the office of Ward 6 councillor.
Rick’s website is https://www.rickgreenspoon.com and includes some background and priorities he has identified in his campaign. In our meeting, Rick identified the most important priorities for the incoming council:
- Halton Region growth: happy to see growth focused in the Major Transit Station Areas (MTSAs), Rick wants to ensure that these areas are built correctly. He is concerned about improving facilities for seniors and ensuring day care centres for children.
- Climate change: Rick wants to be sure that we change in areas that we can control. He wants to continue tree canopy growth and decreasing carbon monoxide emissions.
- Transit: he has some ideas about how transit service changes can help through adjustments in bus sizes based on ridership throughout the day.
Rick is doing his research, meeting with various groups, and learning more about the issues every day. Originally thinking that he would aim for services “without an increase in taxes,” he has learned that “minimizing taxes” is a more realistic goal. He wants to hear more from Ward 6 residents and groups during the campaign and will be going door to door over the next two months.
He describes the strengths he would bring to the council chambers: “my doggedness, my ability to follow through to completion, a fresh outlook,” and more.
Rick has been working from home in the automotive sectorsince 2004 and started his own business in 2008. He also has experience working as a golf professional. He’s seen the evolution of services since the recession in 2008 and over the years of COVID.
When asked about some of the content on his website, it became apparent that Rick is observant, and is listening when he hears concerns expressed. Although he didn’t use the words “complete communities” when we met, his descriptions of services for all ages created that picture. He also mentioned that he will advocate for more pickleball courts and additional bylaw officers.
At this time, Rick Greenspoon and Angelo Bentivegna are the candidates for councillor in Ward 6.
