Seven Burlington residents and three non-residents were charged in May as a result of a variety of driving incidents. Citizen-initiated complaints resulted in seven of the charges. Thank you to those who made the complaints!

Burlington residents were charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired in the New Street and Guelph Line area on May 28; driving with a blood alcohol level of 80 mg or more within two hours of driving and failure or refusal to comply with demand in the area of Cumberland Avenue and Prospect Street on May 24; driving with a blood alcohol level of 80 mg or more within two hours in the Maple Avenue and Brant Street area on May 20; and operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and driving with a blood alcohol level of 80 mg or more within two hours of driving at Guelph Line and the Queensway area on May 8. A Burlington resident was charged in Oakville on May 26 with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired. The non-residents were charged on May 14 in the Brant Street and North Service Road area and on May 8 in the area of Cedarwood Place and Plains Road East.

A non-resident was charged as a result of a traffic stop on May 28 (in the Maple Avenue and Maple Crossing Blvd. area).

Two Burlington residents were charged as a result of collisions, one on May 21 in Milton and one on May 15 in the Plains Road East and Willowbrook Road area. In each case, the charges were operating a motor vehicle while impaired and driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 mg or more within two hours.

On May 25, a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was executed at a Burlington residence. The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) 3 District Street Crime Unit arrested three suspects after a drug investigation in Burlington.

Yahya Yusuf (31 years old) of Burlington was charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm and knowledge of and possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Careless storage of firearm and ammunition
  • Tampering with serial number
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts) and of a weapon obtained by the commission of an offence
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (three counts)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine (two counts)
  • Breach of release order

Abdirahman Adan (23 years old) of Burlington was charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm and knowledge of and possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Careless storage of firearm and ammunition
  • Tampering with serial number
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and of a weapon obtained by the commission of an offence
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (two counts)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine, fentanyl, and oxycodone
  • Obstructing police

A third person from Calgary was also charged. All three were held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police seized the following:

  • A loaded Colt 38 Special Revolver
  • 41 rounds of ammunition
  • 147.4 grams of cocaine
  • 29.2 grams of fentanyl
  • 76 oxycodone pills
  • Over $11,000 cash
  • Two stolen licence plates
  • Seven digital scales
  • Nine cell phones
  • 1 kg of cutting agent
  • One flick knife

Three robberies have been reported in the past two months. An armed robbery at the Best Buy, 1200 Brant Street, resulted in four suspects, armed with knives. They demanded cell phones and cash.

A robbery on April 25 at the Brant Lakeshore Pharmacy, 1477 Brant Street, resulted in four suspects. A robbery on April 6 at the Rogers Wireless at the Burlington Centre, 777 Guelph Line, resulted in three suspects. They demanded cell phones and one displayed a Conducted Energy Weapon (often referred to as a taser).

On March 15, HRPS concluded a drug investigation that resulted in two Burlington residents being arrested and charged.

Braeden Bonhomme (29 years old) was held in custody pending a bail hearing on the following charges:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (three counts)
  • Weapons dangerous
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Breach of probation
  • Breach of weapons prohibition order

Taylor Bakti (29 years old) was released from custody pending a court appearance on the following charges:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (three counts)
  • Weapons dangerous
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon

On March 18, HRPS responded to a condominium in the area of Fairview Street and Brant Street. Three suspects demanded cash and attempted to abduct a male victim at gunpoint. One Burlington resident and four Hamilton residents were arrested and charged in this incident. On March 25, Andrew Burroughsford (38 years old) was charged with:

  • Accessory after the fact
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of cocaine
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.


Police seized ammunition and two firearms.
