Jan. 24, 2022 — Media release from the Halton Regional Police Service

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made an arrest after an investigation into an anti-mask protest that took place at the Mapleview Mall in Burlington last December.

On Wednesday December 15, 2021, at approximately 6:30 p.m., HRPS officers were contacted regarding a group of approximately 20 people that had made entry into the food court seating area of the mall against the direction of security staff on site. This group pushed past security and accessed the mall without wearing masks or showing proof of vaccination as required and requested by on-site security.

Police attended at that time to investigate and keep the peace. No arrests were made by police on the date of the protest.

Further investigation into the protest determined a security guard had been assaulted (the guard did not suffer any physical injuries).  On January 19, 2022, a 58 year old female of Burlington was arrested and charged with Assault and Mischief.

The accused was released from custody pending a court date of February 9, 2022.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Acting Sergeant Mark Urie of the Burlington District Response Team at 905 825 4777 ext. 7556.
