Brightly striped background on the left, with the words "Save the Date 80s Dance Party." On the right, there is an image at the bottom of a cassette, and above, on a yellow background, are the words "Fundraiser, Back to the 80s. Friday, Oct. 13th, 7 pm, Burlington Legion, Live band - Pop Machine! 50/50, games, food and bar. Tickets for $40."

Tickets are still available for the Compassion Society’s 80s Dance Party fundraiser, on Friday, October 13 at 7 p.m., at Burlington’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch 60.

Local band Pop Machine Trio will play those 80s tunes to get party-goers on the dancefloor, and there will be food, a bar, games, and a 50/50 draw to test your luck and help the Compassion Society raise more money to keep helping those in need.

For $40 plus a $3.93 sales fee, you can get your ticket, or gather nine of your friends to purchase a table of 10 for $400 plus fees to relive the decade’s big hair, big music, and big shoulder pads for an evening.

Says Compassion Society Executive Director O’neil Edwards, “During a time of so much uncertainty and insecurity Compassion Society of Halton is a food/clothing, justice organization, advocating for the right to food, and working to challenge the systemic barriers that keep people from accessing the food they need to thrive. The 80s party/fundraiser is a way for the community to support those in need.”

The Compassion Society aims to eliminate poverty in Halton Region and provide help “Where it’s needed — when it’s needed,” as per the organization’s tagline. They collect clothing, bedding, towels, food, and hygiene items to give to people in need. Amongst their most-needed items are baby food and formula, juice, flour, rice, salt, cooking oil, diapers (in sizes 4, 5, and 6), feminine hygiene products, and cleaning supplies. The Compassion Society also gives out gifts to clients for holidays, and provides support to job seekers. To become a client of the Compassion Society, you must go in-person to their site, at 1881 Fairview St., bringing with you identification, proof of residence, proof of dependents, and proof of income to complete the registration process.
