Following completion of its highly successful garage sale program, the Aldershot Lions Club has donated $2,000 toward the King’s Road Public School breakfast program for children.
Acting Principal Gord Truffen accepted the cheque from Lions John Howard and Rick Craven.
The school offers its young students a breakfast opportunity each day of the week. It is a “grab-and-go” event Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with the children picking from a variety of healthy snacks like fruit, muffins, cereal, and cheese. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, a hot meal is available, including such things as grilled cheese and French toast. More than 50% of the school’s population takes advantage of the program.
The entire effort, run by volunteers, costs the school about $10,000 per year.
The Halton Food for Thought program is instrumental in organizing the entire effort.
The Aldershot Lions Club has been supporting causes in the Aldershot community since 1956. Its most recent project, an indoor garage sale, sustained itself for five years and raised thousands of dollars for Aldershot and other programs, services, and charities.
