Burlington Transit and GO Transit have partnered to offer free co-fares to transit users. The free co-fare program begins Monday, March 14, 2022 and promotes using local transit, like Burlington Transit, as part of users’ GO Transit journey. Using local transit with GO is better for the environment and reduces congestion. Riders can use their PRESTO Card to take advantage of the co-fare savings.
How to get the free/discounted co-fare
Tap on Burlington Transit and GO Transit using a PRESTO card and riders will automatically get the free co-fare.
When taking Burlington Transit first:
- Ride Burlington Transit and pay the fare.
- Get on GO Transit and your GO Transit fare will be discounted by the value of the Burlington Transit fare.
When taking GO Transit first:
- Travel on GO Transit and pay the fare.
- Get on a Burlington Transit bus and it’s the same as a transfer—there are no extra fees
This program allows customers to ride Burlington Transit for free combining Burlington Transit with GO Transit. For a Burlington adult that commutes every weekday using Burlington Transit and GO Transit, this could add up to savings of more than $200 a year. There are four GO Transit options in Burlington: Aldershot GO, Appleby GO, Burlington GO and the 407 Carpool lot (buses only).
Other ways to save on Burlington Transit
Burlington Transit offers free passes for low income residents. This pass is called the SPLIT Pass – Subsidized Passes for Low Income Transit and is offered in partnership with Halton Region. Customers interested in the program may apply and register with Halton Region. Those who qualify will receive a free PRESTO monthly pass from Burlington Transit.
Seniors also ride for free on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and children aged 12 and under ride for free.
