As the weather warms up, Burlington Public Library invites the community to head outdoors with its expanded Outdoor Play collection — now featuring equipment for spring and summer activities.

Following the successful launch of winter gear earlier this year, the collection now includes a wide range of outdoor games and equipment perfect for backyards, parks, and cottages. With a BPL card, borrowing is free and easy—making it simple for residents to enjoy active, screen-free fun all season long.

The Outdoor Play collection includes popular warm-weather favourites such as pickleball, horseshoes, badminton, bocce, golf clubs and archery sets for kids, along with hiking poles, lawn darts, and more. Whether trying something new or revisiting a classic pastime, there’s something for all ages and skill levels.

Simple, free and ready to go
Borrowing from the Outdoor Play collection is designed to be straightforward and accessible:

  • Free with a Burlington Public Library card
  • Available at Alton Branch
  • No deposit required
  • First-come, first-served (no holds or advance bookings)
  • 7-day loan period (no renewals)
  • Borrow up to three items at a time

Customers are asked to review safe use and care guidelines when borrowing and to return equipment directly to staff for a quick check.

Plan your next outdoor adventure
All Outdoor Play items are housed at Alton Branch. Customers can browse available equipment in advance through the library’s online catalogue by visiting the Explore & Play Collection section on the BPL website. Availability is updated regularly, so you can check before you head to the library.

BPL’s Explore & Play collection supports active minds and active bodies by offering a wide variety of games and gear that encourage creativity, movement, and connection—all free with a library card.
