On Saturday, local MPP Natalie Pierre met with the team at BurlingtonGreen to hear more about the $79,800 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that is building BurlingtonGreen’s resilience and sustainability by strengthening its volunteer program, and developing and implementing targeted community partnerships and fundraising strategies. The project is helping BurlingtonGreen increase community participation and empowerment to address the climate and ecological crisis locally.
“This is great news for BurlingtonGreen and our community,” said Natalie Pierre, MPP for Burlington. “This funding from the government of Ontario’s OTF funding stream ensures organizations like BurlingtonGreen have the resources they need to support eco-focused programs, services, and initiatives. This investment will help them continue to make a lasting local impact right here in Burlington.”
Due to be completed in October of this year, the grant allows BurlingtonGreen to achieve interconnected components that include developing and implementing new strategies for community partnerships and targeted fundraising to deepen relationships and advance shared goals. The volunteer program is also being strengthened through program efficiencies, including new volunteer recognition programming and development of a team of core volunteers to increase organizational capacity and support program growth.
“Thanks to this timely grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, a tremendous amount of progress is being achieved to help strengthen our organization so we can better keep pace with the growing demands from the community,” said BurlingtonGreen Executive Director Amy Schnurr. “The protection and health of the environment requires local collective impact more than ever before.”
BurlingtonGreen provides the largest presence of environment-related programming, services, and impact in the City of Burlington. Upcoming offerings include a drop-off event for electronic and other waste, a clothing swap, a native plant sale, drop-in programming at Burlington Beach, and a variety of rewarding volunteer opportunities.
Through awareness, advocacy, and action, BurlingtonGreen empowers the local community to protect and care for the environment, now and for the future. Celebrating 17 years of helping the planet locally, their website provides many resources and opportunities to make a difference: www.burlingtongreen.org.
