In June, Peter Thoem documented a sighting of a pair of Trumpeter Swans who had wandered away from their nest for a few minutes’ break on his website My Bird of the Day. He noted at the time that hatching seemed imminent and snapped a photo of the female after she’d returned to incubate the eggs.

Sure enough, a week later, Thoem reported the sight of the Trumpeter pair with their five healthy cygnets, paddling on the water. See the lovely family snapshots below; to read more on his birding adventures, go to Thoem’s website.
