A quiet hum of anticipation filled the room during the recent fireside chat at Le Germain Hotel on Mercer’s library, hosted by award-winning Burlington fashion designer Joseph Tassoni alongside his guest Danielle Graham, co-founder of The Firehood. The energy and ideas exchanged that afternoon continue to reverberate through the worlds of tech and fashion, offering a glimpse into a collaborative, sustainable, and boldly innovative future.
Though hosted in a Toronto venue, the fireside chat is part of a larger intentional vision to boost local business and creative energy in Burlington, specifically downtown Burlington, where Tassoni’s long-standing studio and designs live.
The Fireside Chat also marked the official announcement of Tassoni’s highly anticipated upcoming immersive fashion experience, Joseph Tassoni Presents: SS/FW 2026 – The Intersection of Style and Tech. Set for September 19, 2025, at Arcadia Earth, with an exclusive afterparty to follow at Le Germain Hotel, the show promises a multisensory journey into Canadian creativity, featuring local and community partners, curated culinary moments, crafted beverages, and a celebration of forward-thinking design.
“By creating events like this in the city and drawing people in from outside, we’re generating momentum right here at home,” said Tassoni. “It’s about placing Burlington on the map in a way that feels organic and community-driven. Clients and people ask me all the time where they should eat and go in Burlington when they come to my studio. And I love referring them to local gems in Burlington and across Halton.”
While the immersive runway experience lies ahead, the intimate fireside chat was not the usual fashion event; it offered a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the guest-centric philosophy behind the upcoming show. There were no garments on display — just an engaging conversation designed to spark cross-industry dialogue. A curated guest list brought together founders, creatives, investors, and thought leaders shaping the future of Canadian business, technology, and culture. The format, intentionally focused on discussion and ideation, underscored the industry’s growing need for conversations that are not only stylish but strategic.
The afternoon was a thoughtful pause before the curtain rises, a moment where diverse perspectives came together to imagine what fashion’s next chapter could look like, exploring how artificial intelligence, automation, and sustainable practices are reshaping the way we design, produce, and experience fashion.
“Technology is allowing us to humanize technology,” Tassoni explained. “By integrating AI and automation, we’re making room for smarter production, less waste, and more creativity. It’s not just about speed, it’s about purpose.”
Tassoni’s designs, known for their luxurious tailoring, environmental consciousness, and being 100% Canadian-made, have long reflected his commitment to community and innovation. From his Toronto–Burlington train rides, where he says he draws inspiration by observing “what people are wearing and how they move in their clothes,” to his strategic partnerships with select retailers across Canada, his work remains grounded in current, everyday life, even as it embraces the future.
The true focus of the evening was on ideas: how AI-powered pattern making, virtual fitting rooms, and digital design are unlocking new levels of customization while reducing environmental impact.
Danielle Graham, an angel investor and co-founder of The Firehood, a network focused on increasing the leadership and prosperity of women in tech, joined as a guest in the discussion. “We created The Firehood because too many women in tech face barriers that limit their potential,” reads a statement on The Firehood website. Graham’s presence highlighted how events like this fireside chat can open new pathways. Attendees shared that when diverse minds merge across industries, it becomes a powerful spark. As Graham emphasized, “When creativity meets capital and innovation meets purpose, that’s when real change happens.”
Also among the guests Tassoni invited was Jasmeet Singh, widely known as BeardedMaker, whose robot dog Bolt has become a social media sensation. He brought along his AI spider — a conversation starter that hinted at deeper ideas. Singh, who has been in robotics for over 15 years, believes automation and robotics will soon define how we live, work, and even dress.
The event offered a rich mosaic of perspectives. Discussions flowed freely around smart scaling, how to humanize manufacturing processes through technology, and why sustainability must be central to fashion’s future. For Tassoni, it’s about creating collections that carry meaning while embracing innovation. “We’re at a place where technology doesn’t have to strip away the soul of design — it can amplify it,” he said.
From tailored elegance to tech-fueled sustainability, the fireside chat was more than just a conversation; it was a catalyst for supporting local businesses in Burlington. A preview not only of a future-looking fashion line, but of an industry evolving through synergy, inclusion, and the bold merging of minds. And, Tassoni has hinted, it’s the first of many fireside chats to come, with future guests and topics already in the works.
