Because Hunger Doesn’t Take A Break
June 2, 2025 — FeedHalton
The communities of Oakville and Burlington are considered two of the most wealthy and prosperous in the GTA.
But did you know that 12% of Halton residents live in poverty? Or that the increase of Burlington Food Bank usage between January and April 2025 is 13% versus last year at the same time? Or that 9% of people in Oakville live below the Low Income Cut Off of less than $25,000/year?
These are not simply statistics. These are our neighbours. Our friends. Our co-workers. Our community.
During this time of year, when celebrations are frequent as school comes to an end, graduations are plentiful, and the weather turns to summer, our organizations are here to remind our communities that Hunger Doesn’t Take a Break.
Burlington Food Bank, Kerr Street Mission (Oakville), and FeedHalton have joined together this June in a collective effort to increase awareness of hunger and encourage people who can to donate. The food drive is meant to stock the shelves of the organizations and, importantly, to cause action in donation during this busy time.
We encourage donations not just to our organizations but to any service agency of choice. This includes donation bins at grocery stores, which are delivered to community organizations directly.
The important point to this program is that our neighbours are supported, and our organizations can continue to serve the needs of the community.
Donations can be dropped off at any of our locations during our open hours.
