The battle for a spot on the Sound of Music Festival’s main stage is well underway, the competition highlighting Canadian-based talent. The Road to Sound of Music 2025: Battle of the Bands has already seen incredible performances, passionate artists, and unforgettable moments, setting the stage for an epic finale in June.

A huge round of applause to Lucas Mason, the first qualifier winner, who has taken his first step toward securing a main stage performance at this year’s festival. The 18-year-old singer-songwriter from Niagara has been making waves with his heartfelt storytelling and commanding stage presence. His viral moment on stage with Zach Bryan may have thrust him into the spotlight last year, but it’s his raw talent and dedication that are keeping him there. With influences ranging from Bob Dylan to Noah Kahan, Lucas is proving himself as a name to watch in Canada’s music scene.

Lucas Mason went viral last March after he was invited on stage with Zach Bryan at Scotiabank Arena.

The second qualifier brought even more heat to the competition, with two standout acts — Treading Zero and Lucky Honey — claiming victory. Treading Zero, a Canadian heavy rock band from London, Ontario, brings a sound shaped by the tensions of a rapidly changing world, blending powerful vocals, sharp guitar riffs, and immersive percussion. Meanwhile, Lucky Honey, an indie-rock sensation, has been capturing hearts with their infectious melodies and high-energy performances. After a breakout year featuring sold-out shows and festival appearances, the band is riding a wave of momentum that could carry them to the main stage.

With two qualifiers down, anticipation is building for the next round of competition. Qualifier #3 is set to take place on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Dickens Pub, with doors opening at 8:00 p.m. Music lovers and supporters of local talent won’t want to miss the chance to see the next group of contenders battle it out for a spot in the Grand Finale event.

Qualifier #4 follows on Monday, May 12, also at the Dickens Pub at 8:00 p.m. Each qualifier winner secures a place in the ultimate showdown at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. The Grand Finale will feature the four top acts, all vying for the grand prize — a coveted performance slot on the Sound of Music main stage.

The Road to Sound of Music is more than just a competition: it’s a celebration of emerging talent and a showcase of the vibrant music scene in Ontario. With every performance, these artists are proving that they have what it takes to leave their mark. As the qualifiers continue, one question remains — who will take the stage in June and claim the ultimate prize?
