BurlingtonGreen is pleased to host another engaging and informative webinar with Bob Bell, this time exploring the Mysteries of Bird Migration.

The event will take place on Thursday, March 27 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. via Zoom

In this talk, Bob Bell will discuss the amazing journeys many birds undertake twice a year, as they migrate back and forth between their northern breeding grounds and southern wintering grounds.

Bob will consider questions such as:

  • WHY do some birds migrate?
  • WHAT triggers it?
  • WHEN do they go?
  • WHERE do they go?
  • HOW do they navigate?
  • WHO undertakes the furthest annual trip, migrates at the highest altitude?
  • WHAT bird conducts the longest non-stop flight?
  • ARE there different kinds of migration, or do all migrating birds act in the same way?

Also shared will be the many hazards and challenges that these remarkable creatures encounter and must deal with as they wing their way hundreds to thousands of kilometres along their travel routes.

Bob will conclude his talk with tips on where best to observe birds during spring and fall migration, along with some suggestions for further reading and information.

The webinar is part of an annual series offered by BurlingtonGreen to help community members gain a greater appreciation for the incredible feats carried out by the birds that surround us.

For those unable to attend, the event will be recorded, and a link to the video recording will be sent to all registrants following the event.
