Jan. 21, 2025 — Halton District School Board
The Halton District School Board invites parents/guardians, students, staff and community members to provide input on the budget development process for the 2025-2026 school year through an online survey by Feb. 9, 2025, at 4 p.m.
The education sector has been presented with unprecedented challenges and funding pressures in recent years, compounded by an expected decline in student enrolment next year, driven by aging neighbourhoods and slower growth in new developments within Halton. With student enrolment as the main driver of funding, this decline will result in lost revenue, leading the HDSB to budget a $1.8 million deficit this year that must be eliminated next school year through a restrained budget development process focused on cost containment and balancing resources within funding limitations.
Your input is integral in helping us identify priority areas and allocate resources to best support students, staff and the broader HDSB community. As we work toward a balanced budget, this collaborative approach allows us to address current financial challenges while shaping the future of education in Halton. By sharing your insights, you play a key role in guiding decisions that will impact our schools and community.
— Roxana Negoi, Superintendent of Business Services and Treasurer for the Halton District School Board
To support community engagement and understanding of the budget development process, the HDSB invited community members to submit questions that were answered during a public information session on Monday, Jan. 20. A recording of the session, along with frequently asked questions (FAQs) and additional resources, is available on the 2025-2026 Budget Input webpage of the HDSB website (hdsb.ca). Community members are encouraged to review these resources and provide feedback to help guide decision-making by identifying areas of priority and how the HDSB can minimize impact while achieving financial goals.
The budget development process aligns the allocation of resources to the HDSB’s strategic priorities, as identified in the 2024-2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan and the annual operating plan.
