Fresh and new aspirations often come with a new year. As we age, many of us become more focussed on achieving balance between our physical and emotional well-being. Among the many challenges of aging, mental health is one that is rarely discussed. The normal aging process can bring with it such issues as depression, chronic grief, and anxiety.

Older adults need a safe space to discuss these issues, and this month’s seminar, Caring for the Aging Mind – How to Prioritize Wellness in Later Life will not only provide that, but will also allow for open discussion about mental health among seniors. The Empowered Seniors Speakers Series is thrilled to welcome psychotherapists from Burlington’s Peachy Counselling who will provide an overview of common mental health concerns. Kirsten Davidson and Adrianna Zabel will share their expertise in this session.

During this seminar, you’ll learn:

  • What are the most common mental health concerns
  • How normal aging affects mental health
  • Where to seek help
  • Some coping mechanisms for significant life transitions
  • Practical tips for maintaining good mental health
  • The benefits of individual and group counselling
  • How to proactively manage and protect mental health

Join us on January 8, 2025, and start your year strong with the tools and knowledge to protect and preserve your mental health. Please reserve your free seat for the session, taking place from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Art Gallery of Burlington, 1333 Lakeshore Rd., by visiting Empowered Seniors Speakers Series or calling 905-330-5201.

Marion Goard began hosting the Empowered Seniors Speakers Series in the summer of 2023. Each seminar has a different theme, all on themes that are better considered earlier rather than later, whether you are an older adult yourself or are helping your aging relatives.
