Get ready for a howling good time at the Howl-oween fundraiser that’s being held by Dream Team Search, Rescue, and Recovery Inc. in this, their tenth year of operation.
Taking place at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Aldershot (126 Plains Rd. E.), you can have fun while helping raise funds for a great cause. With carnival games, a bake sale, a barbeque, raffles, there’s something for everyone. There will be music and a doggie costume contest — human participants are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to the event too.
The Dream Team is a volunteer-operated, not-for-profit, federally-incorporated organization, who rescues well over 500 dogs a year, bringing them back to their happy owners. For the ones they could only recover, at least the families have closure. During rescues, the Team involves the owners, teaching them how to interact with their pets toward a safe outcome.
As well as all the dogs personally rescued by the Team, there are many more owners and other rescue groups outside of the area who continually call the Dream Team’s Ken Price for assistance and advice.
Dream Team also does free community outreach, providing sometimes 1000 lb of food a month, as well as leashes, harnesses, blankets, etc., to those not able to afford to take care of their pets properly, many of whom are necessary service animals.
Dream Team doesn’t charge for their services, no matter how many days, nights, or weeks it takes to find a beloved pet, relying on donations and occasional fundraisers to purchase the very specialized equipment needed to be as successful as they are. Donations can be made on their website www.dreamteamsearchrescue.ca or e-transferred directly to fundraising@dreamteamsearchrescue.ca
There are some great videos on past rescues and teaching information on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/DreamTeamSearchRescue, which has over 7000 followers.
For the Howl-oween Fundraiser’s doggie costume contest, due to the unpredictability of some dogs in unfamiliar busy spaces, we will be taking pictures of them and judging from the pictures.
