Burlington singer-songwriter Abby J Hall hosted an epic album release event at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre last weekend. The evening unfolded as a sold-out celebration of Hall’s deeply personal work, intersected with moments of vulnerability, empowerment, and joy. With performances from fellow artists CJ Cooper and Floating Mansions, the perfect tone was set for an insightful night to come.

Hall’s new album Vital Signs is an exploration of life’s emotional pulse — the way we check in with others and, most importantly, with ourselves. In her words, the album’s title is symbolic, drawing parallels between physical and emotional health.

“I named the album Vital Signs because I loved the idea of checking your pulse, your heartbeat, your breathing. It’s a metaphor for life — just like you check your vital signs to make sure you’re alive, you should also check in on yourself emotionally and mentally.”

Each track on Vital Signs was carefully chosen by Hall to reflect this theme. The intention is to reach listeners who feel alone or misunderstood, those stepping into new seasons of life, and those in need of a soundtrack for their personal moments of growth — whether they’re laughing or crying.

The album’s opener, “In My Dreams,” kicks off this emotional journey with a sense of hope, while the closing track, “The Observer,” represents letting go and embracing the unknown. The structure of the album mirrors Hall’s own reflections on self-care and self-reflection, offering listeners a chance to travel alongside her as she navigates the complex emotions of life.

The night’s performances were nothing short of amazing. Hall played fan favourites like “Better, Masquerade,” and the memorable “Busy,” leaving the audience in awe of her captivating stage presence. Her connection with the crowd was palpable. As she took in the sight of a packed venue, she expressed a touching moment of gratitude.

“Stepping out on stage, seeing people everywhere — it made me emotional. There were new faces and familiar faces of those who supported me from the beginning; all together in this one room. It’s a night I’ve dreamed of for so long, and now it’s finally here. If I could freeze this moment, I would.”

But perhaps the most poignant aspect of the evening was the cause Hall championed. Proceeds from the event were donated to the Canadian Cancer Society to support cancer research, a cause close to her heart. Both her mother and grandmother have battled breast cancer, and their strength throughout their treatments deeply influenced Hall’s life and work.

“It was a big shift in our family,” she shared. “Seeing my mom struggle and manage it — I admire her strength so much. She’s done so much for me, and I wouldn’t be who I am today without her.”

The night ended on a high note with an exclusive preview of Hall’s upcoming music video for “The Observer,” which will officially drop today. The video brings visual life to the album’s themes of dreaming, healing, and ultimately finding freedom.

With Vital Signs, Abby J Hall has delivered an album that not only showcases her incredible musical talent but also speaks to the human experience with authenticity and grace. More than an album — it’s a lifeline for anyone in need of a reminder that they’re not alone in their struggles and that healing is possible.
