Creative Community Hive (CCH) has a number of upcoming free events to get people exercising their creativity and connecting with others in the community, in various locations across Burlington. Choose from theatrical improv, embroidery, Latin dance, or adult cooking classes (or all four!) to get out and join in, learn something new, or build on skills you already have.

Embroidery across cultures
CCH invites you to celebrate cultural diversity in your community with pop-up embroidery events on September 28 at the Alton branch of Burlington Public Library, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and October 2, at Port Nelson Church, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. These sessions are offered as part of Ontario Culture Days.

Embroidery has an immensely diverse and intricate history spanning thousands of years, and it is still popular today. Different cultures have their own embroidery techniques and patterns; people travelling across the world in the past spread the various styles as they went, leaving a trail of similarities for us to discover today.  The goal of CCH’s embroidery workshops is to enlighten participants on the background and history of a few chosen ancient embroidery methods. The coordinators of the event offer a simple structure format, lecture demonstrations, and hands-on instructions to explain the patterns. The various embroidered pieces created during these workshops will come together to form a single community-made piece that represents the variety of cultural traditions that Burlington’s citizens have to offer.

Basic embroidery skills are required, all material is provided, and open to anyone aged 13 or over. To register, email infohive2021@gmail.com, or call 905-484-1561. For more information, click here.

Creative Community Hive and their impact on the community
Local non-profit arts platform Creative Community Hive (CCH) invites adults to use creative tools in safe, laid-back, uplifting, and judgment-free environments to engage with others in the community. CCH proudly serves the towns of Burlington, Oakville, and Milton with creative expression and social opportunities.

The organization prioritizes accessibility, diversity, inclusivity, and social and emotional well-being. Their free drop-in activities host a calm, meditative environment that gives participants a chance to meet new people and feel accomplished with what they create. Using recycled materials to create art and reduce waste and making practical items for donation to local hospitals (e.g. knitting, sewing) are two more ways the CCH works to better our community.

Join them at upcoming events near you or visit their website at creativecommunityhive.com for more Information.
