Peter Thoem describes this sighting of a Peregrine Falcon as “serendipitous,” as he was not actually on a birding trip when he spotted this bird and its similarly-aged friend, but rather sitting outside on an urban restaurant patio for lunch. The birds calls alerted Thoem and his dining companion to their presence, resulting in “this spontaneous Bird of the Day,” Thoem notes. Though the Peregrine Falcon can be found year-round locally, it is still rather special to manage to capture a close-up shot, we think.
