Looking for something to do this weekend in Burlington? There are some interesting and new options across the city, including the first weekend of the new Aldershot Farmers’ Market, the Arts Burlington Spring Sale, the Craftadian Handmade Market, the last weekend of the Burlington Waterfront Sculpture Trail, and the first in the Aldershot Lions’ series of their Parking Lot Garage Sale events.
This Saturday marks the first day of the Aldershot Farmers’ Market, which will run every Saturday from May 25 until October 26 at 1016 Waterdown Road. The weekly market will open at 9 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. and will feature locally-grown produce, cheese, eggs, meats, and baked goods. There will also be pop-up food vendors that will change regularly for visitors to sustain themselves whilst wandering the market.
The Arts Burlington Spring Sale is where you’ll find art of all kinds by talented local artists, all members of the six guilds that make their home at the Art Gallery of Burlington (the sale is accordingly held there). From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday, May 25, and Sunday, May 26, you can peruse wood craft, sculpture, fine art, photography, pottery, fibre art, and more.
While you’re at the Art Gallery of Burlington, why not follow the Burlington Waterfront Sculpture Trail while you’re downtown? This outdoor, fully accessible 2 km trail features the work of some 30 artists and runs until June 1. For more information, click here to read Maisha Hasan’s article on the trail, including interviews with two of the artists.
For fans of garage sales, the Aldershot Lions’ Parking Lot Garage Sale might be just the ticket — from 8 a.m. until noon on May 25, June 22, July 20, and August 17, you’ll find this big sale at 2243 Fairview St. (the former Holland Park Garden Gallery location). Barbeque breakfast sandwiches will be available; for those who would like a booth for $35 to sell their own gently used items can call 905-367-0567.
Craftadian Handmade Market will take place at the Ron Joyce Centre DeGroote School of Business on Saturday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This Burlington Spring Market boasts 65 artisans and makers displaying their wares, which will include bath and body products, clothing, art, candles, jewelry, and food items.
Artisans are from the local area; for instance, Forget Me Knot Handmade Shop from Guelph will be at the market with their jewelry, as will Karma Handcrafted Art from Oakville, showing their home décor. Niagara’s Windwick Farm will offer its freeze-dried candies and treats, and Toronto-based Chachalate will be selling its two-ingredient chocolate (cocoa beans and organic cane sugar is the extent of the ingredient list). While parking is free, there is an entrance fee of $5 (though kids aged 16 and under are free).
