April 15, 2024 — Burlington Helping Burlington
Burlington Helping Burlington is a relative newcomer to the Burlington charitable sector, but we have been making an impact since our launch in September 2023!
In the last 90 days of 2023, we collected 8,000 lb of food for the Burlington Food Bank, The Compassion Society of Halton, and Food4Kids Halton. We also held a number of events that raised just over $20,000 that was distributed amongst Burlington charities, including Halton Women’s Place, the Compassion Society, the United Way, Shifra Homes, Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services, Reach Out Centre for Kids, Carpenter Hospice, and Burlington Rotary North.
We have also been busy in the first quarter of 2024, hosting events that have raised funds for the Pinball Clemons Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society.
Our major event for this year so far is Cars, Cocktails, and Compassion on May 11, an evening of fun, festivities, and fundraising to benefit the Compassion Society of Halton. This event will be held at Hagerty Garage and Social (1220 Corporate Drive), a social space that fosters networking and mingling in a fun environment complete with golf simulators and plenty of fine cars to admire!
Cars, Cocktails and Compassion will feature a keynote speaker from Volunteer Halton, both a DJ and live music, a comedian, tasty appetizers, and local craft beer supplied by Farm League and Nickel Brook. The evening will also include an auction and opportunities to donate to the Compassion Society.
The Compassion Society of Halton is a key player when it comes to providing assistance to those who need it most. They provide food, clothing, everyday household articles, and referrals to local resources. They have been helping those who struggle, regardless of colour, faith, race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, or political affiliations, since 2000.
Burlington Helping Burlington and the Compassion Society are grateful to a number of local businesses who have generously sponsored this event: Kate Kozub Real Estate, The Black Bull Neighbourhood Pub, Pets ‘n’ Groom, Joe Apps Technology Support, The Success Mentor, Verecan Financial, Detail Guard, TD Bank (Small Business Banking), Serina Bowles Travel, Aley Jae Photography, and ICLS Dermatology and Plastic Surgery. We appreciate their confidence and support!
